ClearaSpray: An Innovative Product Based on Borassus flabellifer Sap as a Natural and Environmentally Friendly Anti-Scale Spray for Glass Laboratory Equipment
In the world of laboratories, the cleanliness of equipment is an important factor that affects the accuracy of experimental results. However, the process of cleaning laboratory glassware is often challenging because scale, stains, and bacteria can adhere strongly. To this day, many laboratories still rely on chemical cleaners that are relatively expensive and have the potential to cause irritation and pollute the environment. Based on this problem, the Diponegoro University Student Creativity Program for Entrepreneurship (PKM-K) team, consisting of five students, presents an innovative natural cleaning solution called ClearaSpray. This team consists of Alam Surya Negara, Salsa Kamilia, Amsal Jobit Mangaraja Sinaga, and Mohamad Rasyid Bahaudin from the D4 Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology program, as well as Senifa Azzahra from the Economics Study Program, with Dr. Ir. Fahmi Arifan., S. T. M. Eng., M. M., IPM. ASEAN Eng. as the supervising lecturer. This collaboration aims to create an innovative, natural, and economical laboratory equipment cleaning product.
ClearaSpray is a natural descaling spray based on fermented palm sap (Borassus flabellifer), which produces ethanol and natural acetic acid. This content has been proven effective in removing scale, stains, and eliminating bacteria on glass laboratory equipment. The advantage of ClearaSpray lies in its effectiveness in cleaning while also being safe for humans and the environment. This product does not contain harsh chemicals, making it safe to use without the risk of skin irritation or respiratory problems. Additionally, the price of ClearaSpray is much more affordable, even half the price of competitor cleaning products, making it an effective and economical cleaning solution.
The composition of ClearaSpray relies on natural ingredients that support each other. Natural vinegar from palmyra sap acts as the primary cleaning agent, glycerin helps protect the glass surface from scratches while maintaining moisture, and sodium benzoate is used as a natural preservative to extend the product’s shelf life. This combination results in a cleaning solution that is not only effective in removing scale and stains but is also gentle on laboratory equipment and the environment.
The presence of ClearaSpray is concrete proof that local innovation can provide real solutions for laboratory needs with a sustainable approach. By utilizing the potential of siwalan sap as a natural Indonesian raw material, this PKM-K team aims to create a superior, affordable, and environmentally friendly cleaning product. With ClearaSpray, cleaning laboratory equipment can now be done more effectively, safely, and environmentally friendly.
