Five students from the Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology Study Program, Vocational School, Diponegoro University, have once again achieved a proud accomplishment on the national stage. Adhilla Rifky Ramadhan, Akbar Asyadani, Dzikri Mahesa Al Ghifari, I Gusti Ngurah Satya Mukti, and Kasyfillah Sandy Azizi successfully won 2nd place in the National Scientific Writing Competition held at the Sikarya Scientific Competition 2024 event by Sriwijaya University. The student team, guided by lecturer Yusuf Ma’Rifat Fajar Azis, S.T., M.T., presented a research paper titled “Integrated IoT Polypropylene Plastic Waste Conversion as Fuel Oil Raw Material Using the Pyrolysis Method: A Smart Solution for Palembang City Plastic Waste Management.” This idea integrates pyrolysis technology with the Internet of Things (IoT) to process plastic waste into liquid fuel, providing an innovative solution to the increasingly concerning plastic waste problem.
This competition, held at Sriwijaya University, was attended by dozens of student teams from various prestigious universities in Indonesia. Thru rigorous selection, presentations, and in-depth panel discussions, the Diponegoro University team successfully stood out with their innovation relevant to environmental and technological issues. According to Adhilla Rifky Ramadhan, the team leader, this success is due to the team’s hard work, the university’s support, and guidance from the supervising lecturer. We want to make a real contribution to addressing the global issue of plastic waste. “Palembang, as one of the major cities in Indonesia, is our primary focus for implementing this solution,” he said.
Beside bringing home the award as champions, this innovation is also expected to inspire other students to continue creating environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies. This achievement further solidifies Diponegoro University as one of the higher education institutions consistently producing outstanding and innovative generations. Congratulations to the student team for their brilliant achievement!
