Undip Vocational Graduates Recruited by Nickel Mining Industry Without Applying

Currently, various recruitment processes for large companies and modern industries are being conducted based on social media profiling. Social media screening is now a common step in the employe recruitment process because social media can be used to build a person’s image. This is also the experience of Shabrina, a graduate of the Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology (TRKI) Study Program at the Vocational School of Diponegoro University in Semarang. Shabrina expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work in the nickel mining industry in Southeast Sulawesi, which she found thru LinkedIn and social media on Google. One of the users from the Nickel Mining company visited their LinkedIn profile, and then Shabrina sent a connection request.

The user, who is the Section Head of HRGA, first sent me a LinkedIn Direct Message, Shabrina said. It is thru this Direct Message that I resend my CV and briefly explain my skills and competency certificates. Shabrina revealed that all of this is inseparable from the important role of the Vocational Undip TRKI Study Program, which has equipped her with training and competency certificates to accompany her graduation diploma. The Head of the TRKI Study Program, Mohamad Endy Julianto, stated that the training and competency certification provided to students during their studies included: ISO 9001:2016, ISO 14001:2018, ISO 45001:2018, SMK3, and training in Biodiesel Plant Engineering and Career Preparation. The competency certification offered was for Liquid Chemical Production Process Supervisors. Shabrina added that to improve skills and broaden knowledge, various training sessions were also attended, such as: HACCP, VACCP, TACCP Based on FSSC 22000 5.1 Version. Full Stack Data Analysis training to gain skills in SQL, Python, Tableau, Spreadsheets, and data analysis. Similarly, Ms. Excel training is deepened from basic to advanced levels. Similarly, the publication in the journal has also been prepared with the guidance of the Supervising Lecturer under the title “Optimization of Sunflower Essential Oil Extraction (Helianthus Annus) Using Soxhletation Method with Factorial Design Experiment.” “Even periodically, I always evaluate my CV and update my LinkedIn to get opportunities,” Shabrina explained.

Finally, only 2 days of integrated interviews with HR and the user were held at that time. Shabrina revealed that she was given a task challenge by the user with a deadline of several hours, which required her to do two things. However, Shabrina took the initiative to add one more thing beyond what the user requested, Shabrina explained. Within a few days, the recruitment process moved quickly, successfully completing the Offering Letter signing and medical checkup scheduling. The information update for submitting additional documents such as a tax ID (NPWP), health insurance (BPJS Kesehatan), and others has also been completed. For me, everyone has their own time. “I learned a lot about not giving up easily and being brave enough to take risks,” concluded Shabrina.
