The challenges of the millennial industrial dynamics and the need for human resource (HR) development amid competition with other advanced countries require skilled and professional graduates in their fields. This is also true for the capabilities of graduates from the Chemical Engineering Technology (TRKI) program at Undip Vocational School, who have been prepared to face the challenges, needs, and demands of modern industry in line with the increasing demand for skilled workers both domestically and internationally. Mohamad Endy Julianto, S.T., M.T., the Head of the TRKI Program at Undip Vocational School, stated that higher education institutions are required to continuously innovate and enhance learning creativity in accordance with global industry needs. The TRKI program has also prepared skilled and competent human resources through the revitalization of vocational higher education. The Revitalization Program implementation includes dual systems, teaching factories, retooling (retraining), industry practitioners, and Competency Certification Institutions (LSP). The educational process includes the development of innovations registered as patents and copyrights, which has yielded remarkable results and made its graduates highly sought after by modern industries, Endy explained.
One such graduate is Aisyah Nuraini, a student who has completed her applied bachelor’s degree in TRKI. Together with her research supervisor, Mohamad Endy Julianto, she has been granted a patent for her invention titled “Method for Producing Hesperidin from Lime Peel through Microwave Thermochemical Extraction” (Patent no. IDS000007235). Aisyah mentioned that her research supervisor directed the results to be registered as a Simple Patent. The supervisor assessed that the topic was very promising for commercialization in industry after reviewing the research data obtained from the laboratory. In addition to the granted patent, her research also yielded two intellectual property rights (IPR), including No. EC00202270527. Aisyah expressed that having a granted patent and IPR has led to numerous offers from industries, including Pertamina. She is currently undergoing training at PT Pertamina Hulu Energi for the position of BPS (Professional Guidance for Bachelor’s Degree/D4). Aisyah, who holds more than 15 certificates, including Awareness of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Internal Auditor for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), HIRADC, and other competency certificates, stated that all of this is a result of the learning system in the TRKI program, which prepares skilled and competent human resources through the revitalization of vocational higher education.
The curriculum and the capabilities of the lecturers are excellent; all TRKI lecturers hold competency certificates and assessor certificates. Additionally, the support staff in the TRKI program also possess various competency certificates, such as K3, Energy Auditing, Chemical Analysis, and some are assessors, Aisyah concluded.
