Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology 2019 students take part in research at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Daffa Ikhlasul Amal is a 2019 student from the Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology Study Program (TRKI) Vocational School, Diponegoro University (UNDIP) who is currently carrying out his research at BRIN. In early 2023, it was reported that Daffa had passed the BARISTA Scholarship program (Research Assistance for Research and Innovation Talents) 2022 batch II from BRIN.
The research was entitled “Development of Chitosan-Based Membranes with Silica Nanoparticle Additives as Hydrophobic Membranes in Biodiesel Purification”. Daffa said that he was interested in the development of membranes, so he believed that this field had a lot of potentials. With the help of the BARISTA program, Daffa had the opportunity to research and explore his research on further membrane development. In his experience enrolling in the program, he has his own obstacles that he doesn’t usually encounter in research in general. This leads him in confidence and trust of himself, that the research material he chooses has potential.
The BARISTA program aims to support research and innovation talents to expand collaboration networks. Target attendees will be presented to DIV/S1, S2, S3 students. This program provides support through part of UKT allowances and research funding. In addition to having the opportunity to conduct research in well-known place, researchers can collaborate with other parties with different research backgrounds. “Here (BRIN) I get the opportunity to relate to researchers at BRIN and I also get the opportunity to expose or publish my research,” said Daffa.
He had the opportunity to share tips for students who looking to join the research world. According to daffa, several important things need attention, there is big 3 (basic knowlage, critical thinking, dan problem solving). These three basic notions need to be explored by a researcher to put their skills into practice when doing direct field research.
Daffa’s accomplishments are a reflection of a young soul who is passionate about exploring his interests. He believes the depth of knowledge needs to be consistent in order to maximize results. Experience while he was carrying out BARISTA research, that the activity was beneficial, and he learned many new things in the world of research. So students who want to enter the world of research can benefit from grant programs like BARISTA that support individuals who are interested in research.
