Semarang–Farhan Gimnastiar Maslihan, a student of Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology (TRKI) Vocational College will represent Diponegoro University (UNDIP) at the Regional Student Art Week (Peksimida) XVI Central Java 2022. Farhan will compete in the men’s poetry reading section where held at the Pancasakti University, (UPS) Tegal on August 27, 2022. Since elementary school, Farhan has often participated in theater arts activities at school, which was the beginning of participating in the first-place poetry competition at the city level. At the junior high school level, Farhan won 3rd place in the National Student Art Festival and Competition, then at the high school level he became the champion at the West Java provincial level. His favorite poets are Sutardji Calzoum Bachri and Sapardi Djoko Damano. In addition, he has also won a new creation dance competition and was involved in the choir.
“Since we born, we have moved then when we are moving, we are using art. For me every movement is art. Studying poetry makes me have a sense of empathy for others, not only cultivating vocals but also cultivating feelings,” he said.
“As an UNDIP student, I am grateful that the campus facilitates and supports art activities for students through the Diponegoro Art Competition and the preparation of Peksimida competition. UNDIP does not only hone students’ abilities in the academic field but also hone students’ abilities in non-academic fields. UNDIP appreciates all student activities.” Farhan continued.
For him, being a student besides being educated, you also have to be able to socialize with other people, learn to manage time, and add important relationships in the organization. Seeking knowledge is not only in the academic field, but from various perspectives through organizations and the arts. According to Farhan, it must be remembered that college is to gain as much knowledge as possible so that the opportunity must be used as well as possible. Because being able to be part of the UNDIP academic community is the result of a struggle that doesn’t come easily.
