The Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia created the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, which is one of the programs is an internship. Through MBKM internships, certainly students can become directly involved in internal activities and gain relevant knowledge from the institution of the workplace. And being able to figure out what is the attraction of government institutions as a requirement of the working world.

One of Diponegoro University’s Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology students, Palupi Diah Utami, is currently attending MBKM internship program at PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT), which is one of the largest producers of urea fertilizer and NPK in Asia. She carried out her internship for ± 5 long months. She chose PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur as her apprentice because of her interest in Petrochemical Studies, so she chose the fertilizer industry with the aim of exploring the fertilizer production process in Indonesia directly.

Palupi was placed in the Department of Process and Energy Management at factory 5 which is the largest new factory in PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur. Her internship activity was the same as other employees, from 07.30 am to 16.00 pm. This internship program was carried out offline and got a mobilization fee for a round-trip transportation ticket.

Previously, Palupi had received opportunities to intern as a Process Engineer in several companies in Indonesia. Such as PT Rekayasa Engineering, PT Kaltim Methanol Industri, dan PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper. The thing that encourages her to remain persistent in the internship program is that the registration requirements are quite easy, financed by the Merdeka Campus of the Ministry of Education and Culture, capable of filling out 20 SKS, develop themselves, add relationships, get certificates, and obviously getting some firsthand industrial experience.
