In an effort to empower the community and utilize coconut husk waste in Dusun Bolong Kulon, Tegalsari Village, the second-year students of Diponegoro University’s Community Service Program (KKN II) conducted a training on bio-briquette production with the Women Farmers Group (KWT) on August 18, 2024, at the home of KWT Chairwoman, Mrs Sri Riyanti (Mrs Pono) This training was led by Abraham Mario Natari, a student from the Department of Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology, Faculty of Vocational School, Diponegoro University.

This event is part of the KKN project aimed at enhancing skills and empowering the economy of the Dusun Bolong Kulon community through the utilization of abundant organic waste in the village The training was held to introduce and raise awareness among the residents of Dusun Bolong Kulon about the importance of utilizing coconut husk waste to create valuable and environmentally friendly products, such as bio-briquettes.

Through guidance from Abraham Mario Natari and the KKN student team, the KWT mothers received detailed explanations about the process of making bio-briquettes Starting from the introduction of necessary materials, the benefits of bio-briquette products, to hands-on practice in making bio-briquettes using coconut husk waste One crucial step in this process is adding lime to the briquette mixture, which aims to improve the quality and performance of the bio-briquettes, resulting in better heat production and more efficient combustion

The interactive and practical approach ensures that participants not only listen to theory but also directly apply it Each participant is invited to actively participate in every stage of production, from mixing the materials to molding and drying the finished briquettes.

Mrs Sri Riyanti, as the Chairwoman of the KWT Dusun Bolong Kulon, provides her comments regarding the training As the Chairwoman of KWT, I highly appreciate this training Besides being beneficial for the environment, the bio-briquettes we produce also have added value as a new source of income for the women here This skill is not only useful for our own families but also has the potential to be developed as a profitable small business We hope that trainings like this can continue to be implemented to improve the welfare of the residents, expressed Mrs Sri Riyanti She also added, The modules and materials provided by the KKN team as guidelines for future bio-briquette production are very helpful for us to continue producing these briquettes independently and consistently.

This training is a proper step in increasing awareness about the utilization of coconut husk waste and the skills of the residents in Dusun Bolong Kulon, in order to equip the KWT mothers to be creative in creating useful and valuable products With these new skills, it is hoped that the KWT mothers can bring innovation and efficiency in various aspects of life, especially in Desa Tegalsari
